The Scottish Lute and Early Guitar Society (SLEGS) was formed in Edinburgh in October 2011 by Rob MacKillop and Bill Samson with the intention of promoting contacts between players of early plucked instruments in Scotland by providing quarterly meetings. In 2021 Rob and Bill retired and SLEGS is now run by a committee of members who look forward to continuing in their footsteps.

Our ongoing aim is to promote performance and the knowledge of the history and construction of early plucked musical instruments, primarily the lute and early guitar with an emphasis on the performance of music composed for these instruments and the techniques used to play them. We are affiliated to the Lute Society.

We encourage musicians of all standards to participate, with special encouragement given to beginners and younger players.
